There is a Mexican surgeon named Don Miguel Ruiz. He is also a writer who awakens the inner peace and spiritual happiness that modern people have lost. His book ‘Four Agrements’ is a New York Times bestseller and has been translated into 30 languages.

 

The turning point for him from a successful doctor to a writer was his own experience of death. One day, he died in a terrible car accident. Immediately after the accident, he saw himself bleeding and dead while holding the steering wheel.

 

He saw his own dead body outside of his body. At that moment, he asked himself, “Who is that dead person, and who am I who is watching him?” At the same time, he saw another world that was completely unfamiliar. That world was filled with light.

 

He says, “I was in the light, and it was a moment of complete enlightenment, pure awareness. I knew that the light contained the extent of all things. At that time, I was with the Absolute God. There is no other way to explain it.”

 

For some reason or process, he was resurrected. Then he abandoned the way he had lived and the things he had been pursuing. This was because he realized that most of what he had believed to be right was false and wrong. And he decided to live his life bearing witness to the world of light. “How can I convey that light to people who have never seen it?” After much thought, he became a writer.

 

We are the charred trees taken out of the fire. Our values ​​have changed. Death is no longer something to be feared, but rather something to be looked forward to. His confidence has increased, his spirituality has become stronger, his obsession with material things, status, and power has disappeared, and his interest in salvation of the soul, heaven, and hell has increased.

Then the Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan. The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you. Is this not the Charred Tree plucked out of the fire?”

And Joshua stood before the angel, clothed in filthy garments (Zec 3:2-3)

 

Many people need rest, but they do not feel it. The week is too busy. They are rushed by work without thinking. They have to hurry.

 

They work from morning till late at night, and work all night. Therefore, on the rare days they have rest, they go out to relieve their fatigue, but their fatigue only piles up. They have no time to take care of their bodies and minds and rest their souls.

 

“Believe in Jesus.” “I’m busy!” “Why didn’t you attend church on Sunday?” “I’m busy.” However, when God, the Master of our souls, calls, no matter how busy we are, we must go.

 

Our country has the highest mortality rate among people in their 40s in the world. They work without thinking and die without thinking. It is because I only thought about moving forward busily and did not think about “rest” for the continuous movement.

 

When you go to the hospital, most of the time, they diagnose any illness as “rest” or “take a rest.”

 

I reduce my work and make time to take care of my soul. I hope that I can stop running around like crazy to prepare and fill up food, clothing, and other things needed on this earth, and live while checking my relationship with God, meditating on His words, and thinking about what God really wants from me.

 

Jesus invites you to a place of rest.

 

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28)

 

Before God lays you down with illness, I bless you to rest on Sundays, meditate on the Lord’s words and grace, and check what you need to do next.

 

Naomi, who appears in today’s text, is the main character of the drama of reversal. The amazing event of her life as ‘Mara’ being resurrected from the dead is recorded.

 

Ruth’s mother-in-law Naomi said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek rest for you, that you may be blessed?” (Ruth 3:1)

 

Naomi’s intention is contained in these words.

 

It is her compassion for Ruth. Naomi was already an old woman, but her daughter-in-law Ruth was still a young woman, or rather, it would be more accurate to say that she was young. How painful it must be for that young daughter-in-law to live alone? She needs a resting place.

 

I must ask God for this for you.

 

“Shouldn’t I seek… for you… and seek… that you may be blessed?”

 

How beautiful is this? Although the conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law is difficult and hard, Naomi and Ruth, who think of each other in faith, show that their relationship is more intimate than that of a real mother and daughter.

 

Naomi thinks,

 

“What Ruth needs most is rest.”

 

I thought that there was nothing I could do for Ruth. The most urgent task was to make her happy by meeting a good man again and forming a family, giving her peace and rest.

 

Naomi told Ruth to go and lie down at the feet of Boaz. Then, Ruth, despite her shame, went into his blanket and lay down.

 

Why did Ruth obey in this way? It was because she clearly understood her mother’s intention. Boaz approached her in chapter 2 as a grateful person, a benefactor of her life. The one who opened the way for her, who had no hope, and the one who guided and protected her, who could not help but be ignored by everyone. That person was Boaz.

 

Naomi advised Ruth to dress beautifully. In order to enter Boaz’s arms, she had to look beautiful in his eyes (verse 3).

 

Then wash, anoint yourself, put on your clothes, and go down to the threshing floor. Do not show yourself to him until he has finished eating and drinking (Ruth 3:3)

 

“So wash, anoint yourself, put on your clothes, and go down to the threshing floor.”

 

There may also be this meaning in what Naomi says to Ruth now.

 

“Take off your widow’s clothes. You have worn them long enough. Now put on new clothes. Stop living a life obsessed with the past.”

 

Ruth is a person with nothing. She is a truly pitiful woman. In a word, she is a pitiful person. However, Ruth still obeyed what her mother-in-law told her.

 

“She did everything her mother-in-law told her” (v. 6)

 

Just as a bride must wash, anoint herself, and put on her clothes before entering the arms of her groom, adorning herself beautifully is something that a wise Christian should do.

 

The moment a bride enters the wedding hall is the most beautiful and clean moment of her life. “Wash,” “make up,” and “put on beautiful clothes.” The saints who want to rest in the Lord’s arms are diligent in cultivating themselves in this way.

 

1. Wash your heart clean with the living water of the Word.

“That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word” (Ephesians 5:26)

 

The gospel of the cross has the power to wash away the dirtiness of the heart. Wash your heart with the Word every day.

 

2. Adorn your heart with the oil of the Holy Spirit. Oil is a beautiful cosmetic, both in the past and present. Oil makes people look shiny and beautiful. (1 John 2:27)

 

The anointing with oil means the filling of the heart with the Holy Spirit. The filling of the Holy Spirit is like the cosmetics of a beautiful woman. The saints whose hearts are filled with the Holy Spirit are embraced by Christ because he is pleased with them.

 

Oil symbolizes joy and feasting. In a spiritual sense, oil refers to the Holy Spirit. It always means the fullness of fellowship with God. We must be born again of water and the Spirit (John 3:5), so that our spirits, which are dead in sin and trespasses, may be resurrected and see the light of the Lord.

 

The Holy Spirit enters our hearts and lights the lamp of God’s image in our darkened souls (Matthew 25:4). Through this lamp of the soul, we communicate with God and the Lord.

Are you one of the five wise virgins who have prepared the oil of the Holy Spirit? Or are you one of the five foolish virgins who struggle every day because the oil of the Holy Spirit has run out?

 

Jesus likens the kingdom of God to ten virgins who went out to meet the bridegroom with their lamps. Five are wise and five are foolish. The five wise virgins took oil in their vessels with their lamps, but the five foolish virgins did not take any oil. You know your spiritual situation best. How are you?

 

3. Dress in good and beautiful conduct. “It was granted to her to be clothed in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” (Rev. 19:8)

 

The bride’s dress is white and beautiful. The saint’s dress is righteous conduct. Always act in a way that is pleasing to the Lord. Conduct is like clothing. The Lord’s bride wears clean fine linen.

 

Let’s not forget that we are all brides who adorn ourselves before the wedding feast with Christ.

 

Naomi advised her to go into Boaz’s bosom when she was harvesting at Boaz’s threshing floor tonight. “Do not be satisfied with gleaning in Boaz’s field, but become Boaz’s wife and the owner of the field. You cannot “gather and live forever.”

 

Right now, at this very moment, do you earnestly long for peace and rest in the Lord’s bosom? How long will you hesitate between the world and the Lord? Jump into the arms of the Lord.

 

Naomi advised, “When Boaz sleeps tonight after the threshing, know where he is lying, and then take the quilt at his feet and lie down there.”

 

When he lies down, you should know where he is lying, and then go in and take the quilt at his feet and lie down there. He will tell you what you are to do.”

 

This is a sign of a woman humbly entrusting everything to herself. This is not easy. It is exciting. It is unsettling. But Naomi confidently advises.

 

“Go into his arms, and he will tell you what you are to do.”

 

I urge you to entrust yourself to the Lord. Your rest is in the arms of Christ. Marriage is about giving your life to your spouse.

It means entrusting your body and mind. Everything I have is yours.

 

Do you believe in Jesus? Then entrust everything to Him. Your time, your job, your life, your future, your old age, even your worries. Don't try to do everything yourself, but entrust it to the Holy Spirit.

 

She went down to the threshing floor and did everything her mother-in-law commanded her (Ruth 3:5-6)

 

Lord, let me not hold my life in my hands, but let me entrust it to God who turns even my worries into joy. Let me rest in God's arms. Let me become a wise virgin who is prepared with the oil of the Holy Spirit. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

육체 밖에서 죽은 자신의 육체를 본 것입니다. 순간 스스로에게 질문을 던졌습니다. “죽어 있는 저 사람은 누구이며, 그를 보고 있는 나는 또 누구인가?” 동시에 전혀 생소한 또 다른 세계를 보았습니다. 그 세계는 온통 빛으로 가득 차 있었습니다.

 

그가 말합니다. “나는 빛 속에 있었고, 그것은 완전한 깨달음, 순수한 인식의 순간이었습니다. 그 빛에 모든 사물의 정도가 담겨 있음을 알았습니다. 그때 나는 절대자 하나님과 함께 있었습니다. 그렇게 밖에는 설명할 길이 없습니다.”

 

어떤 연유와 과정인지는 모르지만 그는 다시 소생하였습니다. 그리고는 지금까지 살아온 방식과 추구하던 것들을 버렸습니다. 지금까지 옳다고 믿었던 것들이 대부분 거짓이고, 잘못된 것임을 알았기 때문입니다. 그리고 그 빛의 세계에 대해서 증언하며 살겠다고 마음을 먹었습니다. “한 번도 그 빛을 본 적이 없는 사람들에게 그 빛을 어떻게 전할 수 있을까?” 고심하던 끝에 작가가 되었습니다.

 

우리는 불 가운데 꺼낸 그슬린 나무들입니다. 가치관이 바뀌었습니다. 죽음은 더 이상 두려운 것이 아니라 오히려 기다리는 것이 되었습니다. 자신감이 늘었고 영성은 더 강해졌으며 물질이나 지위나 권력에 대한 집착은 사라지고, 영혼구원과 천국과 지옥에 대한 관심이 늘어났습니다.

 

불에서 꺼낸 그슬린 나무

여호와께서 사탄에게 이르시되 사탄아 여호와께서 너를 책망하노라 예루살렘을 택한 여호와께서 너를 책망하노라 이는 불에서 꺼낸 그슬린 나무가 아니냐 하실 때에

여호수아가 더러운 옷을 입고 천사 앞에 서 있는지라(슥3:2-3)

 

많은 사람들이 쉼이 필요한데 그것을 느끼지 못하고 있습니다. 한주가 너무 바쁩니다. 정신없이 일에 쫓깁니다. 서둘러야 합니다.

 

아침부터 저녁 늦도록 일하고, 밤을 새워 일합니다. 그러므로 어쩌다가 쉬는 날은 피곤을 풀기 위하여 야외에 나가지만 피곤은 더욱 쌓이기만 합니다. 자신의 몸과 마음을 돌보며 영혼을 안식할 틈이 없습니다.

 

“예수믿으세요.” “바빠요!” “주일에 왜 예배 참석을 하지 못하셨습니까?” “바빠서요” 그러나 영혼의 주인이신 하나님이 부르시면 아무리 바빠도 가야만 합니다.

 

우리 나라는 40대 사망률이 세계에서 가장 높습니다. 정신없이 바쁘게 노동하다가 정신없이 죽어 갑니다. 앞을 향하여 바쁘게 나갈 줄만 알았지 계속적인 나감을 위하여 ｢안식｣을 생각하지 않았기 때문입니다.

 

병원에 가면 대개 어떤 병이든 ‘쉬십시오’,‘안정을 취하십시오’라고 진단합니다.

 

일을 줄이고 나의 영혼을 돌볼 수 있는 시간을 마련합니다. 먹을 것과 입을 것 그리고 이 땅에 필요한 것을 장만하고 채우느라 정신없이 뛰어다니는 것, 그만두고 하나님과 자신의 관계를 점검하고 그분의 말씀을 묵상하고 정말 하나님이 내게 무엇을 원하는 지를 생각하면서 살아갈 수 있기를 바랍니다.

 

예수님은 당신을 쉼의 보금자리로 초청하고 있습니다.

수고하고 무거운 짐진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라(마 11:28)

​

하나님이 당신을 병으로 눕히기 전에, 주일에는 모든 일을 쉬고 주님의 말씀과 은혜를 묵상하며 다음의 할 일들을 점검해 볼 수 있는 안식을 가질 수 있기를 축복합니다.

 

오늘 본문에 등장하는 나오미는 바로 역전의 드라마의 주인공입니다. ‘마라’였던 그녀의 인생이 패자 부활하는 놀라운 사건이 기록이 되어 있죠.

 

룻의 시어머니 나오미가 그에게 이르되 내 딸아 내가 너를 위하여 안식할 곳을 구하여 너를 복되게 하여야 하지 않겠느냐(룻3:1)

 

이 말씀속에는 나오미의 의도가 들어 있습니다.

 

바로, 룻을 향한 연민입니다. 나오미는 이미 늙은 여자였지만 며느리 룻은 아직 젊은 여자, 아니 어리다고 하는 것이 더 정확한 표현일 것일것입니다. 그 어린 며느리가 혼자 살고 있다는 것이 얼마나 고통스럽겠는가? 안식처가 필요하다는 것입니다.

 

내가 너를 위해 이 일을 하나님께 구해야겠다.

 

“너를 위하여...내가 구하여...복되게 해야하지 않겠느냐?”

 

얼마나 아름다운 모습입니까? 고부 사이의 갈등으로 어렵고, 힘들다고 하지만, 믿음 안에서 서로를 위하여 서로를 생각해 주는 이 나오미와 룻은 친어머니, 친딸 이상의 친밀한 관계임을 보여줍니다.

 

나오미는 생각합니다.

“룻에게 제일 필요한 것은 안식이다”.

 

내가 이 룻에게 해 줄 것이 없다, 그녀를 행복하게 하는 것은 좋은 남자를 다시 만나 가정을 이루어 평강과 안식을 주는 것이 가장 급선무의 일이라고 생각했습니다.

 

나오미는 룻에게, 보아스의 발치에 가서 누워 있으라고 말을 합니다. 그러자, 룻은 부끄러움을 무릅쓰고, 그의 이불 속에 들어가서 누워 있습니다.

 

룻은 왜 이러한 순종을 하였을까요? 그것은 어머니의 의도를 분명히 이해하였기 때문입니다. 보아스는 2장에서 고마운 사람, 삶의 은인으로 다가왔습니다. 도무지 소망이 없던 그녀에게 삶의 길을 열어 준 사람, 모든 사람들에게 무시당할 수밖에 없는 그녀를 인도하고 보호해 준 사람, 그 사람이 바로 보아스였습니다.

 

나오미는 룻에게 아름답게 단장하라고 권면합니다. 보아스의 품에 들어가려면 보아스의 눈에 아름답게 보여야 합니다(3절).

 

그런즉 너는 목욕하고 기름을 바르고 의복을 입고 타작 마당에 내려가서 그 사람이 먹고 마시기를 다 하기까지는 그에게 보이지 말고(룻3:3)

 

“그런즉 너는 목욕하고 기름을 바르고 의복을 입고 타작마당으로 내려가라.”

지금 나오미가 룻에게 하는 말 속에는 이러한 의미도 있을 것입니다.

 

“네 과부의 옷을 벗어버려라. 너는 지금까지 충분히 오래 입어왔다. 이제 새로운 옷을 입어라. 더 이상 과거에 집착하는 삶을 살지 말아라.”

 

룻은 아무것도 없는 사람입니다. 정말 불쌍한 여자이죠. 한마디로 가련한 사람입니다. 그렇지만, 룻은 시어머니가 말씀하신 것에 그래도 순종하였습니다.

 

“시어머니의 명령대로 다 하니라”(6절)

 

신부는 신랑의 품에 들어가기 전에 목욕하고 기름을 바르고 의복을 입어야 하듯이, 자신을 아름답게 단장하는 일이야말로 지혜로운 그리스도인이 해야 할 일입니다.

 

결혼식장에 들어가는 신부는 일생에서 가장 아름답고 깨끗한 순간입니다. ｢씻고｣｢화장하고｣｢아름다운 옷｣을 입습니다. 주님의 품에 안식하려는 성도는 그렇게 자신을 가꾸기에 부지런합니다.

 

1.말씀의 생수로 마음을 깨끗하게 씻으십시오.

“이는 곧 물로 씻어 말씀으로 깨끗하게 하사 거룩하게 하시고” (엡 5:26)

 

십자가의 복음은 마음의 더러움을 씻어 내는 능력을 가지고 있습니다. 날마다 말씀으로 자신의 마음을 씻어 내십시오.

 

2.성령의 기름으로 마음을 단장하십시오. 예나 지금이나 기름은 아름다운 화장품입니다. 기름은 사람을 윤기 나게 보이게 하고 아름답게 해줍니다.(요일 2:27)

 

기름 부음은 곧 마음에 성령의 충만함을 말합니다. 성령의 충만함은 아름다운 여인의 화장품과 같습니다. 성령께서 마음에 가득하게 한 성도는 그리스도께서 기뻐하시므로 안아 주십니다.

 

기름은 기쁨과 잔치를 상징합니다. 영적인 의미에서 기름이란 성령을 말합니다. 항상 하나님과의 교통이 충만함을 말하죠. 물과 성령으로 거듭 나야(요 3: 5) 죄와 허물로 죽은 우리의 영이 다시 살아나 주님의 빛을 보게 됩니다.

 

성령은 우리 마음에 들어오셔서 어두어진 우리의 영혼에 하나님의 형상의 등을 밝히십니다(마 25:4). 이 영혼의 등을 통하여 우리는 하나님과 교통하고 주님과 교통하는 것이죠.

당신은 성령의 기름을 준비한 슬기로운 다섯처녀입니까? 아니면, 성령의 기름이 꺼져서 날마다 허덕이는 미련한 다섯처녀입니까?

 

예수님은 하나님 나라를 마치 등을 들고 신랑을 맞으러 나간 열 처녀에 비유합니다. 다섯은 슬기로운 처녀요 다섯은 미련한 처녀입니다. 슬기로운 다섯 처녀는 그릇에 기름을 담아 등과 함께 가져 갔으나, 미련한 다섯 처녀는 기름을 가지지 아니하였습니다. 당신의 영적인 상황은 본인이 가장 잘 압니다. 당신은 어떤가요?

 

3. 선하고 아름다운 행실로 옷을 입으십시오. “그에게 허락 하사 빛나고 깨끗한 세마포를 입게 하셨은즉 이 세마포는 성도들의 옳은 행실이로다 하더라” (계 19:8)

 

신부의 드레스는 희고 아름답습니다. 성도의 드레스는 옳은 행실입니다. 늘 주님 보시기에 흐믓한 행동을 하십시오. 행실은 옷과 같습니다. 주님의 신부는 깨끗한 세마포를 입습니다.

 

우리 모두는 그리스도와 혼인잔치를 앞두고 자신을 단장하는 신부라는 사실을 잊지 마십시오.

 

나오미는 󰡔오늘 밤에󰡕 보아스의 타작 마당에서 추수를 할 때에 보아스의 품으로 들어가라고 권면했습니다. ｢보아스의 밭에서 이삭을 줍는 것으로 만족하지 말고 아예 보아스의 아내가 되어 밭의 주인이 되라는 것입니다. 언제까지나 ｢이삭을 주워먹고 살 수는 없다｣는 것입니다.

 

바로 지금 이 시간, 당신은 주님의 품에서 평화와 안식을 간절히 사모합니까? 언제까지 세상과 주님 사이에서 머뭇거리고 있을 것입니까? 주님의 품안으로 뛰어드십시오.

 

나오미는 ｢오늘 밤 타작을 마치고 보아스가 잠을 잘 때 그 눕는 곳을 알았다가 그 발치 이불을 들고 거기에 누우라｣고 권면하였습니다.

 

그가 누울 때에 너는 그가 눕는 곳을 알았다가 들어가서 그의 발치 이불을 들고 거기 누우라 그가 네 할 일을 네게 알게 하리라 하니

 

이것은 여인으로 자신의 모든 것을 겸손하게 맡긴다는 표시입니다. 이 것은 쉽지 않은 일이죠. 가슴 두근거리는 일입니다. 불안한 일입니다. 그러나 나오미는 확신을 가지고 권면합니다.

 

“그의 품안으로 들어가라. 그는 너의 할 일을 네게 고하리라.”

 

주님께 당신을 맡기시기를 권면합니다. 그리스도의 품안에 당신의 안식이 있습니다. 결혼한다는 것은 배우자에게 나의 몸과 마음을 다 맡긴다는 것입니다. 나의 모든 것은 당신의 것이라는 것입니다.

 

예수님을 믿습니까? 그러면 당신의 모든 것을 맡기십시오. 시간도, 직장도, 당신의 인생도, 미래도, 노후도, 심지어 당신의 근심도. 당신이 모든 것을 하려고 하지 마시고, 성령님께 의탁하십시오.

 

그가 타작 마당으로 내려가서 시어머니의 명령대로 다 하니라(룻기3:5-6)

 

주님, 인생을 내가 쥐고 있는 것이 아니라, 근심조차 기쁨으로 바꾸어 버리는 하나님께 맡기게 하소서. 하나님의 품에서 안식하게 하옵소서. 성령의 기름이 준비되어 있는 슬기로운 처녀가 되게 하옵소서. 예수이름으로 기도를 올려드립니다. 아멘
